…a song…
I’ve been doing some thinking about different things (as always) and on a day trip to Sacramento this monday, I was inspired to write a song whilst on the 1.5 hour plane trip down to Cali. It’s about getting the revelation that sometimes it seems that we follow a system instead of a Saviour and that, like lemmings, we fall in line to the beat of the drummer, but the drummer is not our God at all, but whatever system is in place to tell us exactly how to believe. And, also how whatever system we tend to follow, promotes itself as being absoute truth and that any other system that believes differently about some things is wrong. I’m not talking about all kinds of world religions, but I am talking about all within Christianity; amongst many different denominations and organizations. Anyways, here is the song. Obviously, there is no music for you to hear, so you can pretend it’s there. –
the powers that be
who’ve created the quo
say “come follow me,
the way we will show”
I look up to see
who’s leading me
don’t recognize the face
or even know the name
where have I come from
just to wind up back in doubt
how can I figure out
just what I’m supposed to be about
why have we erased
all the colors of this life
to bring out black and white
and sterilize the light
and why do we create
a truth we do not understand
but we bow and kiss it’s hand
just to prove our way is grand
I wonder, as I wander ’round inside this box of faith,
that maybe I’m it’s prisoner and just how can I escape
what am I truly living for
institutions, mindless systems
the bride’s become a whore
justice, mercy, humility
these are all the keys
not a system of beliefs
why do we assume that where
upon the line we fall
is the truest place of all
and those that we see
to our left and to our right
have come close, but just not quite
we think that God resides
on our place on the line_____|_____
but He’s above it all the time
out of sight, out of mind
