Celtic Prayer
I have always been drawn to all things celtic. I am an avid lover of celtic music…especially the alternative kind (hee-hee), I own 7 kilts and I think the most beautiful language to sing a song in is Gaelic. Over the last few years as I have become more and more aware of ancient Celtic christianity and a lot of it’s history and such, and I have found that much of my heart resonates with it. I am a celt at heart (and some blood) and I find a mystical connection to the Celtic Christian way of life. That being said, I’m gonna share celtic prayers and thoughts every so often here just to expose the world to the beauty of the world of the Celtic saints. This is a prayer of St Columba while he was living in the monastic community of Iona, the small island off the coast of Scotland:
Let me bless almighty God,
whose power extends over sea and land,
whose angels watch over all.
Let me study sacred books to calm my soul:
I pray for peace,
kneeling at heaven’s gates.
Let me do my daily work,
gathering seaweed, catching fish,
giving food to the poor.
Let me say my daily prayers,
sometimes chanting, sometimes quiet,
always thanking God.
Delightful it is to live
on a peaceful isle, in a quiet cell,
serving the King of kings
